lieutenant dan lives in the movie.
interesting fact... lieutenant dan laughs at forrest at the notion of becoming a shrimp boat captain. he says the day forrest becomes a captain, he'll be an astronaut. well after the whole shrimping segment, lieutenant dan arrives at forrest's wedding with titanium alloy legs... just like the astronauts.
gary sinise (the actor who plays lieutenant dan) is still alive too. i think he's still on csi ny. also weird was after forrest gump, he went on to be in apollo 13 with tom hanks... though he never did get to go to space.

No he eventually gets some false ones and later on become the best man in Forrest's wedding.
