My 4 Month old has a mild case of reflux. It mostly bothers him at night. My doctor refuses to give me medication because he hasn't lost any weight and is gaining well, But I haven't had sleep in weeks. He was a great sleeper before this problem and I have tried everything my doctor has suggested but haven't had any luck. Can anyone tell me what kind of Natural remedies I can try??

Dear Rogue, I experienced something similar with my last baby although he didn't have projectile vomiting. I discovered a remedy that was so simple and logical, it amazes me there isn't more advice given in this regard. The remedy is soluble fibre. I had chronic reflux with both of my pregnancies until a midwife told me to take Metamucil (soluble fibre). I did from that day on and I NEVER experienced reflux again. The reason is simple, if the stomach senses a slowing in the bowel, it holds the food to avoid overloading the bowel. Only problem is that that then causes overloading in the stomach, indegestion and reflux. If you're breastfeeding, taking soluble fibre once per day will take about 48hours to effectively reach your breastmilk and another 48hours to get through bubs bowels. As well as clearing blocked bowels (which all babies suffer) it is a detoxifier and can work wonders on gas. My baby was transformed once I started on Metamucil and whenever I stop, he gets gassy and fussy. Keep those poops moving! It can't hurt so give it a try. Fingers crossed it will help you as much as it helped me.

YOU NEED A NEW DOCTOR!!! IF YOUR BABY IS IN PAIN HE NEEDS THE MEDICATION!!!

Now take into consideration I HATE MEDICATION. I don't take it myself, I don't want my babies taking it.

But my son has silent reflux and also is gaining fine, as most silent refluxers do (7lb15oz at birth 11lb 13oz at 6 weeks) I knew he had reflux before we left the hosptial (in 24 hours) but he was 6 weeks before I took him to the doctor to get medication, bcause I tried elimanating things from my diet (I'm breastfeeding) 1st, having him upright during and for 30 minutes following a feeding, ect it all helped, but not enough.

So at 6 weeks I took him to the doc and got him on Zantac. It has helped SOOOOOO much. He's a lot happier baby now!

If you'll email me I'll give you more info on silent reflux if you wish.

If you need more assistance or have more questions feel free to email me by clicking on my avatar then on ‘Email Noggin Mama’ Please make sure to include your email address in the email or I will not be able to respond to your questions.

And let me know if you are breastfeeding or formula feeding-so I can give you relevent info.
Hope your little one is feeling better soon!

TIPS: Prop up the head of the bed with blankets or other. Keeping his head above his chest while asleep will help calm nighttime reflux. ALSO do NOT bend him over unless you desperately have to, bending over will cause acid reflux almost EVERY time! When he's sitting, sit him in a straight up, and do NOT recline him in anything back so far that his head is level or beneath his chest.
Things that promote acid reflux can include but are not limited to: smoke in the room and caffeinated beverages.

HERBS & OTHER THINGS THAT HELP WITH ACID REFLUX:
BEFORE giving your baby anything, ask his pediatrician which of the below items you can use, and in what dosages. If your pediatrician is of no help, call a local Homeopathic Doctor and ask him or her.

Apple Cider Vinegar is a traditional remedy that is used to help stimulate digestion. Recent studies have shown that acetic acid helps to stop gastric acid from leaving the stomach and this may assist with the breaking down of food in the stomach. Acetic acid can also increase the number of abdominal contractions in some people, which are needed to move food through the digestive tracts of the body.

Aloe Vera Juice Extract Whole
In one Japanese study, 17 of 18 patients who took Aloe Vera juice found some relief for their peptic ulcers. However, none of the participants was given a placebo, so comparisons of its effectiveness could not be made. Other clinical trials in Japan indicate that certain compounds in Aloe Vera reduce the secretion of stomach juices and the formation of lesions.

Ginger Root is widely used as a digestive aid for mild stomach upset

Bladderwrack Alginic acid is thought to form a kind of protective seal at the top of the stomach, reducing reflux. The seaweed bladderwrack is high in alginic acid.

Fennel seed can be bought at local health food stores in bags, you add them to a homemade milkshake and vuala ... it reduces tummy acid! If you dislike the taste of licorice, try adding flavored ice cream and extract to the shake to cover up the licorice taste.

Marshmallow Root (Althaea officinalis) is used to relieve inflammation and pain in the mucous membranes that are there in gastritis. Its leaves and particularly its roots are rich in mucilage, which obtains a gelatinous quality when wet, and this helps to protect the irritated mucous membranes in the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract.

Turmeric Root Turmeric is good for a variety of digestive disorders. Curcumin, for example, one of the active ingredients in turmeric, induces the flow of bile, which helps break down fats.
