I don't think it is caring as much as an infatuation. The English tradition, the pomp and circumstance and the history of the British royals is intriguing. Start with the Tudor period and read fore ward, what a bunch they were! However, look at the Queen , she is to be admired, not only as a sovereign head , but as a person, read something about her and her immediate family, it is very interesting.

Because they're famous. We love celebrities and can't hear enough about them -- they help us experience vicariously the pleasures of being rich, famous, considered elite. The most popular royals usually are those who wear designer clothes, vacation in beautiful places, and get their photo taken with other famous people.
