My Guinea pig had babies 3 weeks ago. you can handle the babies as soon as they are dry, as long as the mother does not seem upset by it. if she does put them back with her & leave them a bit longer. however keep handling them to 5 mins for the first week. You will have to handle them at 2/3 weeks anyway, to sex them, because boys can make their mother pregnant from 21 days. It is personal choice really as to how long you leave the pups before handling, and depends on the personality of their mum too, if she is comfortable with you them you can handle them sooner, however if she is recently new to you leave them a bit longer. Guinea pigs are not 'like rabbits', guinea pig babies are born fully furred, able to run, eat solid food and drink water hours after birth.
It is a good idea to hold the babies from at least day 2, even if you decide to give mum a little time alone with them, because that way they will be much tamer, and less timid as they grow. I first held my guineas babies when they were an hour old, they are now 3 weeks and tame as anything!

Congratulations on the babies!

Absolutely! Guinea pigs are born with open eyes and fur and can eat solid food the day they are born. The sooner you start handling them the tamer they will be.
Many years ago I bought a tiny guinea pig--it looked like a big hamster. He was a wonderful pet and bonded with me very well. It was years before I found out that guinea pigs that size are newborns. I was amazed to realize they had sold me a guinea pig that young.

this is fake to assert that guinea pigs under no circumstances consume their youthful. this is achieveable, and it has occurred. yet many times, they do it at once as quickly as they have come out... and many times simply by fact the they have 'overcleaned' them (some mothers recover from excited with cleansing and start to consume their infants by possibility). they're going to in no way consume them in case you handle them regardless of the incontrovertible fact that. i've got raised 20 toddler guinea pigs and held them a pair of million/2 an hour as quickly as they have been born. None have been rejected or eaten. this is between the justifications why guinea pigs are the main suitable rodent =)

Question: how bonded is the mother to you? If the mother does not find you a threat, then you can gently handle the babies for very short periods of time. If the mother seems upset, leave the babies alone for a day or two, but still give mom lots of love and attention!

At any time if your really careful. Don't let any kids hold them. I pick mine up as soon a they are born to make sure their nasal passage is clear. I once had one that the mother hadn't get the film off of it's nose and had to give him piggie CPR. He wouldn't have made it if I hadn't have checked him. Be sure to clean the bedding right away. Congratulations on the pups.

Wow why is everyone saying no get a thumbs down? It's true! Mothers won't recognize their scent and will shun them, I think eating them is a bit drastic though. Wait about a week and then bring the mommy and babies to the vet for a check up just to make sure everyone is ok.

I have guinea pigs, too. You should generally wait until 6 weeks after they are born to pick them up.

yes you can and give them a little kiss each and tell them how cute they are. And don't forget to tell mum how clever she is. Congratulations on the new arrivals.
