Cultural travel. Not resort travel. I've heard that Americans travel less than any industrialized country on the whole.

Do you think this affects our world view any?

Whenever someone on Yahoo talks of being an Upper Class Elite World Traveler, it's always an American-Apologizing-Democrat.
They travel over Europe and apologize for Americans being so crude and lower class.
Not all Democrats are on welfare, some are the idle Rich.

I don't think political party has anything to do with it. I think Americans travel less abroad because airfare is a lot more expensive here.

My fiancee's parents live in Turkey during the winter. It's cheaper for them to fly to the Bahamas from Istanbul than it is for me to fly there from Boston.

I think Democrats tend to travel abroad more for leisure. The GOP tend to be more scornful of, and uninterested in, other cultures. But, having lived 6 years abroad in Asia and Africa - there are an awful lot of conservative Texas oil types living overseas.
