to ask your doctor for an ultra sound on your first visit? I didnt think a doctor would do that. My friend is so up tight and thinks that is the best way to find out if something is wrong with the baby. You really cant tell until the baby gets bigger right? She is only 5 weeks if that.

we had an ultrasound around that time (maybe 6 weeks, actually) due to some complications my wife was having. Everything was fine and the picture looked like a cross between a grain of rice and a gummy bear, but it can be done and is sometimes helpful for the dr.

there is no way for her to find out if something is wrong with the baby at 5 weeks pregnant. She can wait til she is between 9 weeks and 13 weeks and get a test done called "CVS" and can find out that way. It is similar to an amnio but done much earlier.

my dr has an ultrasound machine in his office. on my first visit they did an ultrasound just to verify my due date. at 5 weeks they prolly wouldn't be able to see the embryo with a regular ultrasound they would most likely do an internal one anyway. have your friend go to google, click on images and type in 5 week old embryo or fetus.

My doctor gave me a sonogram (vaginal) at first visit, but that was due to a previous miscarriage. Normally he gives them on the second visit and at 4 months.

i just found out yesterday (jan. 8) and he gave me pre-care vitamins, and scheduled me for 2 wks. to come back for an ultrasound and they estimate me to be around 2-3wks. so yeah maybe 5 weeks you should be setting one up!
but dont be afraid to ask your obgyn ANYTHING!
