the yellow dots apear occaisonally and are not specific to one part of the screen so for example they will affect a text box in places and when i move it then follow the box not staying static on the screen. it is not permanent to any part though. is it somthing like a virus or is it colour specific so a new screen is needed?

Your problem is in the wires.
The monitor to CPU plug may be lose or cut in some places.
If not the monitor is dying out.
