i want a really good pair of shoes that i can hike and climb a little in that don't weigh a ton. I hate thick soles but need something dense enough that cactus spikes won't go thru them and every once in awhile coming off a canyon going down a slope i can pick up alot of speed (if you know what i mean) so don't want anything clunky

My wife has had good luck with Vasque.

They have a wide range of products, though tend to be a bit pricey. You should be able to find something just above a trail running shoe that meets your criteria. Maybe the "Breeze Low..."
