hi, i've been planning to compete for a violin.(i'm a high schooler who has played the violin since 5.)

i 'd like to get some advices about my songs and competitions.

1. the size of the competition: state.

2. songs i have in my mind : Chaconne - Vitali, La Folia - Eccles

which one seems better?

well, I can play La Folia perfectly, while Chaconne is pretty hard.

and it's gotta be my first time to compete for the state.

is it really hard to do good in the state competiton?

How is it like?

please give me some advices :)

Go with the piece you can do perfectly, unless you don't like the music. I used to do music competitions back in jr. high/high school, and the nerves can be really challenging to deal with, so a piece you know really well can help. The best thing though is to play music you love, because you will play with more expression--it's not just about the notes, you know?

May I suggest something? Advice is singular, not plural. ("advices" is wrong). Also, these pieces you refer to are not "songs." (Sorry, this is one of my huge pet peeves). Songs are pieces which are sung, like art songs (lieder), Country & Western songs, etc. It drives me nuts when students refer to symphonies, sonatas, or other works as "songs." (and reveals their immaturity, musicologically speaking). You're playing at a pretty high level - you'll want to speak and write like that, also.
