The HYKSOS were a people who were native to the area around eastern Anitolia(Asia Minor)(Turkey) in the second millenium B.C. They were very big in Chariots which they introduced to Egypt when they conquered it and ended the Middle Kingdom in 1,640 B.C. They were the 15th and 16th Dynasties and had their capital at TANIS on the eastern Nile delta.
From 1580-1560 B.C. the 18th Dynasty from Thebes under AHMOSE I ejected the HYKSOS from Egypt and formed the New Kingdom or the EMPIRE.
After this the Hyksos retreated north and blended in with the population. They were absorbed into the Hittite Empire. It was a Hyksos pharoah who favoured Joseph. This is why, when the Hyksos were thrown out, the Hebrews were reduced to slavery. They had been staunch allies of the previous foriegn occupation.
Today there decendants live around the middle east. Hope this helps.

Nobody really knows. They suddenly appeared in Egyptian history, as from nowhere. Their names have some resemblance to Canaanite names, so there may be some connection. It has been suggested that they were the Hebrews as mentioned in the Bible, but I don't agree with this - the Bible shows the Israelites as eventually downtrodden slaves and there is no other evidence that this happned to the Hyksos

the hyksos were part of a conglomerate of foreign peoples from syria. some of them were possible kassites, but most of them were Amorites who spoke a semitic language, though information on their tongue is very meager. it is known that the name Jacob is of Amorite origin.
