Silver (Ag)and Platinum (Pt) are both natural metal elements. Silver is much lighter and more malleable (bendable) than Platinum and more common in most jewlrey. Also, becuase Platinum is much rarer (harder to find and mine than Silver) it is also WAY more expensive than Silver. If you have 2 rings of each in the exact same size - the Platinum will be heavier and unlike Silver, it will not chip, it will just dent and move if it is scratched.

Check below for confirmation. Platinum is a different metal. Precious. Far more valuable. Silver is more common. I believe platinum's atomic weight and density are considerably higher. It is more valuable than gold. It was once called ' Bastard Silver ' in the 1400's or thereabouts but it was a misnomer.

Mass wise, platinum is heavier, I believe. Platinum is rare, which is why it's more expencive. Has a higher melting point, too, I think. But since they are both metals, there are not too many differences charicteristicaly about them.

About $100 per gram.
Sterling Silver is Silver (Ag mixed with alloys to harden it) as in Sterling Silver flatware.
Platinum is very precious ~ used mostly in jewelry (high end).

Something that I noticed no one has said yet is that they are 2 different elements on the periodic table of elements(science). That is the real difference besides price, rarety, and difference between atomic wieght and mass.

platinum is a very rare precious metal, way more then silver is. That's why is more expensive even then white gold. It is also more shiny and harder to get scratches.

they are two completely different metals. silver is less valuable, easier to find and weaker than platinum which is harder to find and therefore more valuable...its also one of the most durable metals.
