tcp/ip is the technology required for network communications - you should already have everything you need tcp/ip-wise in windows xp.

You already have TCP/IP.

That's the Internet Protocol.

Go into your Control Panel, and open your Network Connections section. Right Click on your Local Area Network connection and pick PROPERTIES. Scroll down the list of COMPONENTS that are using by that connection, and you will see the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). When you pick that and get into the settings, you can program in your IP address. (Assuming that your provider does not use AUTOMATIC).

Good luck and Happy Computing!

TCP/IP is a communications protocol used to transmit packaet data over computer networks. Windows XP has this protocol installed and configured for you already. Why do you feel you need to install it?

TCP/IP is a method=protocol that computers use to communicate with each other.

You don't "install" it, if your PC has a network card then it's already installed. All you have to do is configure it.

Since you don't know what it is, I would suggest that you call a professional to set up your network

Right-click on Network Neighborhood, select Properties.
You should get a list of network connections on your PC.

Right-click on a connection, select Properties again.
One of the services should be TCP/IP.

You can click on it and select configure. But if you don't know what you're doing I'd suggest leaving it alone. Especially if your network is working.
