they did not give me any type of apron, instead they used a screen which was on a stand and pushed it up near me. Is this just as safe? I'm worried about it hurting my baby.

Again, like everyone says, the Benifits outweigh the risk. The baby is most vulnerable during the 1st and 3rd trimester. I dont know what different about the 2nd, I kind of slept through that part, but I know for certain that the most acceptable time to x-ray a pregnant patient is during the 2nd. The stand-alone shield wouldn't have shielded you directly, but it would help prevent any scatter. They use it more for the patients around you than for you. Sorry. But again, doctors get paid to make these decisions for a reason.

Did they know you were pregnant? Usually they won't xray a pregnant person unless they feel the benefit outweighs the risk. The stand has a led shield on it that is made from the same materials as an apron is. You cant wear a full apron and have a chest xray because it covers the chest area. Im sure you and your baby will be fine. Just try not to have any more xrays during the pregnancy.

When it comes to being pregnant and x ray's they have to outweigh the risks. The risk of you having bronchitis, outweighed the minimal risk to your baby.

One xray while pregnant is not going to cause damage to your baby. They couldn't give you the apron because they needed to see your chest.

Now if you were going to have a series of xrays over several periods of your pregnancy there might be cause for concern.

I hope that you feel better soon, the best thing for the baby is that you take care of your bronchitis.
