I wouldn't suggest remote desktop.
Install Ultr@VNC and run it in your home computer, it supports windows authentication.
If your router has a firewall or port forwarding option then forward the network port used by Ultr@VNC to your home PC's IP address. ( You can find the VNC port when installing or when checking the properties )
Write down your home router IP address (the one given by your ISP).
Go to your office, install Ultr@VNC , connect to home, Voila!

Talk to your works Network Administrator - I would expect you will need a 'VPN connection' and they may insist that you have Company approved anti-virus s/w and Firewall at home.
NB. A lot of Companies don't allow this sort of thing at all - if you can 'connect from home' so can everyone else on the Internet :-)

First, you have to have XP Professional on your work computer.
Second, you have to enable remote access on your work computer. (right-click my computer, click properties, then the remote tab. Click the appropriate boxes)
Third, you have to establish a connection from home to your work computer through the internet. This is typically done by VPN. If you have a router at work, you can remote desktop directly to your computer by forwarding port 3389 on the router to your computer's IP address. Find the router's public IP address and your computer's private IP address. Forward port 3389 to your work computer's IP address. Make sure no firewall is blocking this port. Then, from home, remote desktop to your router's public IP address. It will forward directly to your work computer.

Really depends on what your work uses for network security. I would talk to your employer's Network Administrators for details.
