First of all, why did they want to have that God forsaken operation done? I wish I could have my foreskin back, or at least have had an opportunity to make the decision to keep it or get circumcised at an age where I could judge the risks, drawbacks, and benefits for myself. But American women have this idea that a penis isn't good enough unless it's been cut. 80% of the world's men are intact and they get along just fine.
Your son and his wife made a mistake by having it done. The kid will get along fine, I suppose, but circumcision is unnecessary and can be done at any time. Why not wait until the child grows up? Ignorant American women and insecure circumcised men keep circumcision in style. It's a human rights issue.
Doctors can refuse to do whatever they wish, as long as it's not an emergency. Since circumcision is mutilation, and the foreskin is a healthy and beneficial part of a child which he is born with, he chose not to do it. He did the ethical thing.
Having seen pictures of botched circumcisions, and read accounts of women who prefer uncut men, and read about the thousands of nerve endings in that large piece of skin (it's about 15 square inches when the man is mature), I believe that it is not worth the risk to do it. All the arguments in favor of it are questionable at best. It's best to just leave it alone. I'm planning to try to stretch my skin to function as a foreskin, but it is supposed to take from one to three years or longer. All this wouldn't have been necessary if my mom hadn't taken it upon herself to get me cut so that I wouldn't have a penis "looking like THAT." I hate that attitude. What if someone wanted women to have surgery on their vaginas to make them prettier or something? That would never fly. But because circumcision is traditional, and men are supposed to be TOUGH, circumcision is seen as acceptable.
Have a nice day!

Unless it’s an emergency and life or limb is on the line a doctor can refuse to do any procedure. Most doctors specialize in various areas of medicine and really are not even qualified to do many things and therefore shouldn’t. The circumcision was a non-emergency procedure any doctor could do. Your doctor likely has never performed a circumcision anyway and you wouldn't want your child to be his first.

Yes doctors can refuse anything that they don't agree with. They are people with there own morals and beliefs. If they do not want to prescribe birth control, circumcisions, or anything else they do not have to. They might lose a patient here or there, or gain a patient but I think it is shows that they don't do things just for money and care about their own ethics.

If circumcision where you live is defined as elective surgery, then yes I believe the doctor can refuse to perform one. Furthermore, insurance will not pay for it.

Maybe the doctor didn't say that. Or maybe the doctor thinks that if there isn't a medical reason for one...then why have one?
You want your religion respected...respect others' religion.

Wow my son just turned a year old last weekend and we had to pay over 400.00 last year for his. It is an elective surgery so the doctor can choose not to do it but he should have recommened someone to you that could do it.

They need to find a new doctor because more issues will come up in the future that that they will disagree with and they are going to want a doctor they feel comfortable with and can trust.

It doesn't sound right to me but nothing is really surprising these days. Although I believe the dr should have told them about his faith so they could find somebody in advance to do the circumcision.

he can and he can't. usually a dr has to go with the parents decision. it was a good thing that they found another dr willing to do it. but also, if his religion states that he CANNOT do it because of what the lord says in that person's religion, i'm sure he doesn't want to go against the lords saying. and congrats!
