Or something along that line. I'm not so sure

I’m keeping minute laws in mind as well, you know, the ones people may not know, like only 3 tenants max per 2 bedroom rental [just an example].

This depends on the law. Some laws are common sense and I don't think anyone can plead that they didn't know they shouldn't have done things like murder, hit-and-run, robbery.. ect. However, there are hundreds of laws that most people don't even know exist to break or not break them. For instance, did you know that it's illegal to have holes bigger than a quarter-in-size in swiss cheese? Or that it is illegal to have over 16 women live in a house together because that constitutes a brothel? (whore house) Here are a few more, just for fun:

It it illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors.

You may not sing in the bathtub. ( tell me how many people you know who have broken this?)

Ministers are forbidden from performing marriages when either the bride or groom is drunk.

You may not catch a fish with your hands.

No man may seduce and corrupt an unmarried girl, or else he risks five years in prison.

A woman isn't allowed to cut her own hair without her husband's permission.

You may not swear in front of women and children.

Ignorance is taken from the word ignore which means there is something you must know and yet you did not find time to know it. Only innocence like that of a child can be excused from the law. The reason for this is that if ignorance can be excusable to a crime, then everybody will have its way to to ignore the law.

In the abstract this makes sense. Citzens should be reposible to know the law.

However there are way too many laws. And they were written by lawyers so average people aren't even sure what they say.

Most of us are ignorant of most laws and are probably law breakers.

We need fewer, simpler laws.

well i think everybody should know that homicide and other major things are against the law. if they dont too bad. but for miniscule laws i really feel that they are not so responsible for their mistakes. for example in my neighborhood ull go to court for not mowing lawn, racking leaves, etc.

Yes, I agree. People know when they're breaking the law, don't they?

What if ignorance was an excuse? We have too many liars as it is.
