It means how fast your connection is. If you have a high ping, that means your connection is slower than if you have a low ping.
That means that having a low ping is better.

A ping is like how computers make sure each other are there in the context you are speaking.

The ping time is usually represented in milliseconds.

The lower the number, the quicker the response and the smoother gameplay will go.

Two computers side by side will have 0-10 ms
You to google.com usually 60-90 ms
You to a gaming server usually 100-250 ms

ms meaning milliseconds

you can play around with the ping command by clicking start, then run and typing 'cmd' then hitting enter.

At the window that opens, type ping 127.0.0.1 and hit enter, and you should see time<1ms
type ping google.com and hit enter, and you should see time=60-90ms
type ping [your game server] and hit enter, and you should see time=200+ms

you can go a little deeper and watch the ping travel by typing tracert google.com and hitting enter, this will show you all the places between you and google's servers.

The ping (for computer games and networks) is the speed of your connection between your computer and the server (a high ping means it takes a longer time for data to transfer so games may appear "laggier" and downloads may take longer).

Usually it is the speed in milliseconds. A ping of 150-200 is normal for many games, but the lower the ping, the better for you. However you can't change the ping and it varies from server to server, as you could be connecting to a server that is somewhere far away from your computer.

PING = Packet Internet Gopher and is often used to troubleshoot network connections. Loosly translated, the Time To Live (TTL) value you recieve from the PING command is a measure of time to reach a remote system and return to you. Depending on the network infrstructure you are working within and if you have traversed the Internet, 200 may not be a bad response time. However. If you are sending the PING to a PC on you rhome network I would suspect a value closer to the low double digits (perhaps 30 ms)

a ping is a measure of how long it takes for a signal (ping) to go from your PC to another over a network. don't know what would be good or bad but I think it is only really important for online games.

It also depends on the server you are pinging and what route the signal takes over the network.
