Well I just read it this past summer and i thought it was ok. The book at times seem fustrating in that the main character is so critical of everything. But then yet we are very critical as well. One can relate to it many ways. Overall though its an interesting point in life yet its pointless. In Salinger's eyes I guess we are just bad and completly have lost the innocence we once had.

I read a lot of books when I was in junior high and picked it up randomley and read it- must have been 1972 or so. At the time I thought it was amazing and very unique. What is really amazing is this thing was written over 50 years ago and the writer is a recluse and will not talk to anybody about the book. I bet more guys than girls like it.

My ABSOLUTE favorite book ever.
J.D. Salinger is amazing.
It's my favorite book for many reasons:
1. It is short
2. It doesn't have too many characters in it
3.There is tons of symbolism throughout the novel
4.Anyone can connect in various ways to the main protagonist Holden
5.The story takes place over 3 days, so it's not drawn out
6. I connect to Holden with his idea of "childhood innocence"
7. The things Holden has to deal with, switching from adulthood, sexual ideas, etc.
I love this book. It's short, I finished in it 2 days. It is amazing.

To be honest, I don't really remember entirely. Much of it is lost to me, I read it so many years ago. I think I was on the fence at the time. Some of the scenes really stuck with me and I could relate w. Caufields general sense of dissatisfaction with the world and lack of direction. At the same time he often seemed overemotional and a whiner to me.

I thought it was overrated. It just didn't do anything for me. To each his own, I guess.
