A snail,which I had carefully deposited over the garden wall ,was determined to get back in. Each hour it climbed 1 foot, but then it fell asleep and slipped back 6 inches, If the wall was 6 feet high, how many hours will it take the snail to reach the top?

Lettuce see,taking into account lunch breaks legal stops for tacograph and overnight stops at halfway housebrick, i'd say about 3days7hours.

Assuming he slips at the same rate he climbs then it takes 21 hours for him to reach the top. He actually climbs 11 feet and slips 5.

.5 ft a hour, so after 10 hours it has advanced 5 feet. On the 11th hour, it progresses 1 ft to reach the top.

In each of the first ten hours it climbs a foot and falls back 6 inches.
In the final hour it climbs to the top ... having done so it doesn't fall back.

It depends on how long the snail slept each time.

It would take 11 hours......plus the snails sleeping time.....

what is the wall made of , as far as i know snails dont slide backwards on walls made of substances with high coeffiecients of friction.....i dont think they can even slide on glass....
