I'm trying to repair my laptop. When I turned it on and all I get on screen is a white folder icon with a flashing question mark.

If you can get to your Desktop, download Applejack and use that to repair your hard drive.
If you have another Mac you can use it's Disk Utility to repair your hard drive using Target Disk Mode.
If you have made a bootable backup on an external drive, connect it to your PB and boot up while holding down the Option key and choose the backup drive to boot from to use Disk Utility.
If you know somebody with the same type of PB, ask to use their Install Disk.
If none of the options I listed are available, then you will need to purchase a Commercial OS X install disk. Do a google search for the Install Disks for your model Mac.

Most of the online Apple resellers have older software disks for sale. Try holding the X key when starting up to make it start from a boot drive with MacOSX.

I could not find it on the apple website to download. Call 1-800-my-apple. They should be able to help.

If you are near a city with an Apple store, they will take care of it for you. Where are you?
