The word pervert is subjective so I would find better words to use personally.
Because the web allows people to research and experiment with ideas and concepts with anonymity. Who are you to say that their behavior, if legal, is perverted.
The days are going where people suppress their instincts and desires because of what small minded people may think and say. If it leads to people being happier and living more fulfilled lives then surely the desire to judge as somehow negative is the really perverted thing.

I think most people are at least a little perverted but hide it when interacting face to face for fear of being deemed inappropriate. On-line there is the veil of anonymity which makes people feel comfortable about either letting loose with their natural perversion or allows they to step into a role and be someone else.
Let me add, that it depends on whether perverted means someone who is trying to hooks up with little kids or if you're just talking about people who want to talk about sex/sexuality or look at porn. But in either case, I think it's because the internet provides the illusion of anonymity.

Because the internet is the only place pervered people can pretend to be people their not, whilst secretly being a pervert without all their victims knowledge. Either that or they can be really perverted to people online and all the people can do is type in capital letters at them and block them, where as in real life you can hit them or get them arrested or something.

there is a certain percentage of perverted people everywhere here the privacy means they can flaunt the perversions that they normally hide ( and of course what is 'perverted' is not universal so when you are on the net the types of people you meet are not the ones you share the rest of your life with just due to sheer numbers )

Because people are just stupid. I ran into many perverted people on the net. I was in a kids chat the other day and there was a man in there looking for little boys, i felt disgusted....People are so gross these days and someone ELSE is going to get seriously hury, raped or DEAD!!!

Because...its human nature. Its easier now to find porn, etc on the internet than any other way.
Its a great way to get viruses!
