I work at a hospital and whenever I pick up the phone I have this shooting tingling in my left arm. It doesn't stay but it is really bothersome. Any thoughts? ONLY SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE!

To the one stupid answer. I said I worked in a hospital I didn't say I was medical personell did I? No! I have had this looked at before and nothing. So if you don't have something intelligent or asinine to say than don't say anything please.

The tingling sensation you described in your left arm can also be a symptom of the migraine, I too suffer from migraines and always get this along with visual disturbances. If I were you I would however go and check it out with your doctor as just recently I had a similar attack and was taken to hospital with a possible TIA (minor stroke that you recover fully from). You could always try a different form of medication for your migraine, go talk to the pharmacist at your local chemist, they would behappy to advise you on the best medication to take.

I have had a functional paresthesia for many years, and have had to learn how to do some things differently, and avoid certain things altogether. Milking cows, and painting ceilings are particularly hard on me. Try answering the phone with the other hand. Some phones have an outlet where you could use a phone jack and use earphones. Maybe you are cradling the phone on your shoulder and this pinching a nerve, or restricting circulation. Maybe you could get one of those "C" shaped arms that clamps onto the phone and sits on your shoulder better. Since you have discovered the proximate cause, it should be possible to focus on the exact cause, then cure it.

I had this same problem. The tingling went down to my finger tips I had one doctor give me a prescription for some kind of contraption to put on any door in my house, then put my head in it. There was a bag I had to fill with water which acted as a weight hanging from one end, and my head was at the other. This was suppose to stretch neck to relieve the pressure on a pinched nerve in my neck. The pinched nerve was the problem. I got some temporary relief with this, but one year later I saw a chiropractor and that's where I got the best results. Take care, and good luck.

Could be a few different things like carpoltunel, or it could be something pressing on the nerve that is going down the arm, which is what is going on with my husband right now, the dr he seen said that it could possibly heal itself but since it has been going on for around a year that he would probebly need surgery to fix the problem.

Well a tingling in the left arm is a classic sign of a heart attack, but I doubt thats it. It's probably just from using the muscles so much. Your nerves are probably flaming up somehow (like w/people who have carpel tunnel). Just try and rest it once and awhile. See if someone else can grab the phone??

If it's still hurting after you rest it, def go see a doctor.
Hope you get better! :)

I agree with Mira & Timothy M's comments, if that means anything to you.
I also have had the same feeling you are describing when I move my arm a certain way. It has occasionally occurred, though.

Sounds like either a pinched nerve or carpal tunnel syndrome. Try to rest your arm more.

my guess is you have a pinched nerve that gets irritated by bending your elbow. I would see a doctor or give it time
