I would contact the Home Depot for a quote to get your carpet cleaned. HD uses the Chem-dry process which doesn't use as much water as many cleaning services. You'll be able to use your carpet in a quicker period of time(couple of hrs compared to having damp carpet for 2 days). And it is cheaper than using stanley steamer or A-1 cleaner service.

You do not always want some one that is cheap, because that is the quality that you get. There is a saying that the cheap comes out expensive.
As you are driving around town watch for carpet cleaning vans, to me the ones that are driving nicer well kept vehicles are the ones that take more pride and care in their work. Call and get quotes, quotes are free. There prices arent always firm, and they can come down in price if you ask nicely. Also be sure to ask what system they use, steam extraction is the best. Ask if pretreat of spots, carpet raking, deodorizer and moving of furniture is included in the price, they should not charge extra for these items. Ask what kind of warranty they offer and ask for references, and be sure to check them out.

It is perfectly acceptable for a carpet cleaning company to charge extra for those services. It takes more time to do and costs more money.
Don't go cheap, you will regret it. Go to www.iicrc.org and locate a certified firm in your area.
