That's pretty low down. But, leave it up to the governments of this world to want to tax anything they can - including fat. How stupid can they get?

I'm sure the UK isn't anywhere near as bad as it is here in the U.S. They tax the hell out of cigarettes and beer, but junk food and fast food is made more affordable than health food. People eat alot of junk food and McDonald's because its been made more accessible, and because of their own laziness. So obesity related illnesses are the number one killers in the US now. Which causes higher costs for insurance companies, therefore higher costs for employers that pay for the health insurance. Individuals should not be taxed, but the items could be. Tax sodas and candy. The way I see it is this: if my cigarettes and pinot noir are considered a "luxury", as should be your crap food.
One more thing: I was at the store last week and got a pack of cigarettes. The guy behind me in line had the audacity to say "you know that's bad for you, you should quit." I was a better person and didn't say anything about his wasteline and the chips he had in his hand. Not anymore. Next time it's on, all you fatties that want to comment on my cigarettes.

I'm right there with ya buddy!!! When I heard about that ,,,I too was shocked!! Just who in the hell does the government think they are?? If I personally wanted to eat all the chocolate & junk food till I was fat,,shouldn't I be able to do that?? It's about personal preferences as far as I'm concerned! None of their business!! What about all of the naturally overweight people out there? The next thing ya know,,, The government will start taxing women for having their periods & having to buy tampons!!! The governments will most certainly continue to be corupt!! All they want is MORE MONEY 'cause of their rotten spending habbits all the while when their getting richer & richer!!!
HOLY CRAP!!! THAT ONE SURE LIT A FIRE UNDER MY A$$!!

There are some US companies who have chosen to not hire overweight people and smokers because of the cost of healthcare. One CEO has given all his overweight and smoking employees all the benefits of gym memberships and programs and such to help them lose weight and/or stop smoking, but if they don't, he fires them.
I think a "fat" tax is pushing it. Of course I'd prefer to see tax dollars go to our schools than to overweight individuals receiving government benefits from their situation. If I can get up everyday, eat right, exercise, and not over-indulge (and I come from a family of overweight people), then they can too.
I am all for the smoking tax. I come from an entire family of smokers who just won't quit and smoke around little kids and it makes me so angry how selfish they are by digging themselves an early grave. If paying more for the habit helps break them of it, pay up pay up pay up.

Overweight people tend to have worse health and therefore are costing the taxpayers and insurance companies more $$ to treat..indirectly driving up the cost of for others as well
