I'm a solitary eclectic witch. I'd like to learn more about Hedge-Witches and Hedge-Witchery. Can tell me more about it, or recommend some good, reputable websites? I don't have a l of money, so book suggestions are fine but not overly helpful at this time, I'm afraid.

And I put this in the Mythology section because questions in the Religion section disappear off the page within a couple of minutes. :p

Hedgewitch is a term for someone who doesn't really do a lot of formal workings.. he/she is more into folk magic using whatever is available to them.

I don't blame you for putting the question here. People in this section seem to be more respectful, also.

I am Pecti-Witan, Scottish Witchcraft in my case (aka Hedge Witch), a "solitary" practitioner of "the Old Religion", and have been for many, many years. As you know being a "Witch" is nothing like what is portrayed in movies or on Television. There is nothing flashy about it. we are fairly simple people with "abilities" that everyone has, ours are just honed and utilized. Lots of research and practice. There is a lot to learn when you are dealing with herbal, mineral and candle magick.
Divination plays a large role for some of us as well. I read tarot cards, rune stones and utilize a number of other "fortune telling" tools anad would NEVER charge anyone for anything I do! Besides, I do not do "readings" or "cast spells" for others on demand. That sounds more like a carnival ruse!
This is something that seemed to come naturally to me, as I believe this is not my first life (nor the last) as a witch. I have always had a deep respect for nature and have an inate ability to communicate with animals (and believe it or not, plants & minerals too in their own way). When I was very young my parents encouraged me to learn about all religions, so I did. This one immediatly struck a chord, like DeJa Vu.
I know that books can run into money, but there is one I would suggest, if you don't already have it (and you can probably get a low priced "used" one on Amazon) is "Wicca, a Guide for the Solitary Practitoner" by Scott Cunningham. It is an excellent source of some basic information. Other books I would recommend would be those focusing on the different aspects of magick (herbal, gems & minerals, candles, etc) . I prefer books by Scott Cunningham. Buckland has some very good books outlining use of some divination tools as well.
We are not heavily into rituals or worship tho we do recognize the goddess & god (in all their guises). We are very individual in our practices and I doubt that you will find 2 alike.
I am so looking forward to Imbolc this year! The 28th anniversary of my handfasting with a full moon to boot! Makes it all the more special!
I hope you find the answers you were looking for.

You were smart to ask in this section. The christians are rather rude to Pagan questions in the religious section. I find I get much more intelligent answers here.

i don't know of any web sites that could help, but you might want to try looking for a shop near you.
people hang out there and there would be postings of various groups that are meeting.

i'm an eclectic pagan, and i'm pretty solitaire. i do have one friend that i do things with sometimes. when a little more energy is needed.
good luck in finding what you seek.
goddess guide you.

Look for a book called the Runic Mysteries by Ravenwolf and Jackson.....sorry. Maybe the pagan store inyour area will take some kind of barter in exchange for the book,,,,cleaning, or a foot massage, or something.

I have only heard the term a few times in 13years,
and from my understanding it was along the lines of natural basied magic craft, using herbal knowledge and basic magic practices.
so more down to earth, rather than rituals etc.

i have found this page which might help.
http://www.angelfire.com/folk/greenwitch/sacred.html

It seems to be simular to what i feel it is.
I hope that helps.

Try Witches Voice or Inner Sanctum....I found them both to be very helpful. "If it harm no-one, Do what you will"
