It's usually a college thing - a typed list of most of the plays for that game. Each play has a formation that executes the play. The wrist band has a code for the play and the formation. In college there is no earphones like in the pro's so the coach can't contact the quaterback while on the field, verbally. Also in the pro's you're supposed to know all the plays cuz, you're in the pro's. Being a professional, you do this for a living so you shouldn't need a cheat sheet.

FORMATIONS. every position has a responsibility. each formation tells each individual player his responsibility. think of it as making you own language. if you want you receiver to run straight 10 yards and cut inside you can call that 'apple'. if you want your running back to pass block you can call that 'green'.if you want you linemen to pass block you can call that 'Ohmaha' then you give the snap count ie 'on 3'. so all together the play is 'apple-green-Ohmaha on 3'. and everyone knows what to do.
