It is able to read DVD's but can't burn cd's, or dvd's. I put this into a custom computer from a hp pavillion.

If you can read then you have the correct drivers. Sounds like you need to use some burning software.

Microsoft Windows XP (which, at a guess, you have) comes with this software built in. Simply insert blank media and follow the on-screen instructions.

i don't think yo need a driver for a dvd writer, since it's native in OS'es now. if you need a cd burning software, try:

www.nero.com
