Okay, so I take Yaz at 9pm every night. Sometime Thursday, during the day, I lost my pills. I called my GYNO on Friday and she got me a new pack of pills. I took Fridays that night, and Saturdays last night. Now, this morning (Sunday) I've started my period. I thought I was going to skip my period this month since I started a new pack about a week before my period was due. Sorry if this sounds confusing... I'm just wondering whats going on. But it is probably important to mention this is only my first month of birth control, so I know it takes a while for your body to adjust. I just don't want to be pregnant. And I'm so confused why I am getting my period while I'm still taking my pills. Ok! Thank you so much!

Because you skipped a pill, your body generally will go into a mode of time to start the period. That's what it's programed to do while on these pills. And often it isn't right away that you start. It's very normal to start after a day or two after skipping. Don't worry too much about it. You'll probably continue having a full period, but just continue taking the pills as directed. And no, this shouldn't have influence the effectiveness of the pill as far as protecting you from pregnancy.

First of all, I hope that you have been using condoms during the first month of any new hormonal birth control method. It does take awhile for your body to get used to the hormones. Second, can you give more specific information about when your period was due, is it early? Did you start taking a fresh pack of Yaz or did you continue from where you left off? If so, do you know that each pack of pills contains seven placebos during which time you should get your period. Good luck.

You will often get breakthrough bleeding if you miss a pill. It's very common. Just keep taking the pills.
