it means that by all the tests they have done so far and by looking at your baby everything looks great, i think that the only test that can really prove if your baby is healthy is the amnio, that checks for brain defects which they cannot see just by looking threw an ultrasound pic, they can do an AFP test, but my doc told me the amnio is alot more accurate. i didnt want the amnio because i heard it can lead to misscariages and i didnt want that at 19 weeks. so far so good though, sounds like your baby is healthy at this point. they moniter them ALL the time and check there heartbeat they will let you know as soon as they suspect something is wrong.

A scan is the best indicator at this time of any problems and you have the all clear so less worrying please!
Unfortunatly our first scan turned into a nightmare when our baby was diagnosed with Gastroschisis, a problem with the intestines. As you can imagine it tainted the whole pregnancy but we made the most of it. We were advised that we didnt need an amnio as this deals only with genetic conditions and Gastroschisis is not genetic. Anyhoo, I really thought I was going to ask for one but I was talked out of it by a friend and Im glad. An amnio carrys a risk of miscarriage and should only be done if advised by your doctor and even then you should consider carefully.
I now have a beutiful healthy 8 month old girl. She had a hard start in life and 4 months in hospital but she came through it.
I hope this answer doesnt scare anyone. What Im trying to say is that if there was a problem it would have been picked up on the scan, as it was with us.xx

The doctor can't completely tell if your baby is healthy at this point. An amnio isn't done until about 18 weeks. An amnio will test for genetic disorders. Generally women over 35 have them, unless there is some reason to suspect one is needed. You can request one if you want some piece of mind. I had one with my first pregnancy because I was 35 and I'm glad I did. The results showed my daughter had a rare form of Down's Syndrome. My husband and I were devistated at first, but it gave us a chance to get our emotions out and prepare for a special needs baby before she arrived. Had I not had the test, even the doctors would've never suspected anything because she doesn't have any physical features of DS. At least we know it's there in case there are any medical or developmental issues.
I don't mean to scare you by sharing this story. I just want other mommies-2-b to know that should they learn their baby could have some problem, I think it's better to find out before the delivery so special planning can be done by both parents and medical staff. Also, the last thing a new mommy needs to deal with is the emotional pain of a problem right after delivery.
Please don't worry at this point. There are so many standard tests done now to check for problems. As long as you continue your prenatal care, your doctor will tell you right away if there are any problems. There's no need to worry unless your OB gives you a reason. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy, delivery and baby.

Amnio tests are only done if there is some kind of history of disease or there is suspicion of it. Your baby is healthy! If the doctors have done all of the proper tests at this point, they can tell the baby is normal. This will be confirmed when you have your ultrasound at 20 weeks. You can even find out the sex of your baby then.

They wouldn't do an amnio test unless you are high risk for a defect. They should do a quad marker or a triple test (depending on the office is all) and it's just a blood test that can check for many different major problems like Downs. Chances are baby is FINE and just enjoy your pregnancy! Good Luck!

that should mean everything is good
you will be getting a blood test done soon, that will be able to tell the doctor is there are any kind of disorders with the baby.

You should have a scan at around 20 week which checks for the main anomolies. However, no test is completely conclusive and they can't test for everything.
The doctors can generally get a pretty good idea if your baby is healthy or not, and most babies are healthy. Try not to worry.

The drs are usually experienced enough to tell if there is a problem with baby. Don't worry about it. Take care of yourself and everything will be fine!
