Everyday you see people talking about sex and drugs, and they are diong them, too! And people HAVE TO HAVE cell phones and computers. They say they can't LIVE without any technology. And everyday I get up to the news saying, "Jane Doe has been kidnapped," or something like that. Why don't people want to make the world better? Why can't we go back one-hundred years and just start over? I know, there were kidnappings back then and murders and stuff, but not as much. We are literally killing humanity. Why don't people have respect anymore? I do not care if we do not have anymore computers or any of that. I know, I know, I am using one right now, but that is because I have nothing to do, because I am thirteen-years-old and I can't even leave the neighborhood. Thirty years ago you could go where you wanted. Why can't we just do that now?

I never said NOTHING happened back in history, I just said that it was a little better than it was today.

It may seem like it was better back then but it was not. What you said about that there was not as much crime wasn't necessary true because crime is more of a present tense situation and only a fraction of the crime lives in stories to be known 100 years later. Drugs on the other hand you might be right about even though opium was a little popular in the west but big in the far east. The fact is humans don't change their behavior even though they mean good and this is why history is stressed in American schools and should be to people even after school. The fact you would be willing to give up current technology would even make things worse and current technology is being made to help make peace and making the future better as well as they were trying to do 100 years ago. The lesson is you can't go back to your past but only learn from your mistakes and move toward a better future.

It's really hard to say whether we have a higher crime rate now than 100 years ago, since there was no TV and no news back then. Less crimes against humanity back then, though? HAH! Since the dawning of time people have done UNSPEAKABLE things to each other- the Crusades, the Holocaust, the poor Native Americans, heck, the Salem witch trials! And we are not literally killing humanity. The Earth's population is at a dangerous level right now. And, by the way- when I was 13 I wasn't allowed to leave my neighborhood, either. I lived in a really small town and it was 20 years ago. Parents have always been concerned and protective about their children. Don't worry about everything so much, you're too young! Enjoy life! And find some volunteer opportunities in your community to try and make it a better, safer place!

I can't remember how many times I have said the same thing...but for the last hundred years, people have been evolving, and the new generation looks back and says..."why can't it be the way it used to be?" Why...?because life moves on....technology moves on. We wouldn't have the famous discoveries that are saving people's lives today, if it weren't for the new technology. For example...the AED...Automated External Defibrillator, that is used in grocery stores, on airplanes etc to shock someones heart back into a normal rhythm...it has been declared the one discovery in the last hundred years that actually anyone can use, and it saves lives....honey, it is run by a computer chip!
People will always be bad to each other...for the most part it is about greed. People want what they don't have and won't work for it. They don't like our world the way it is, so they take drugs and alcohol to make it nice for them...they hit hard when they realize they have to come down sometime and the world hasn't changed at all.
Be a good person to everyone and soak up all the technology you can...this millenium we are in, will be staggering with new discoveries....don't fear them, be part of them!

First off, you think 30 years ago you could go anywhere you wanted? You are so very wrong. I was 9 30's years ago. My brother was kidnapped by some wierdo and locked in his trunk. That was about 28 years ago. When I was 12 I was walking home from school and some freak flashed me. Scared me to death.
How do you know what it was like 30 years ago? You asked why we couldn't go back 100 years? Maybe because it's impossible! You say your 13 years old and have nothing to do? How about study for school? Read a book, a magazine, a newspaper? You don't HAVE to be on the computer. There's nothing for you to do? How about help your parents out around the house? I would never allow my son to tell me there's nothing to do. He knows better. lol He'd get something to do. Like study, or clean his room!
Find something for yourself to do. I agree with you, we do depend on our computers ect. That's just the way it goes though. People change with each generation. You seem like a bright person, maybe you could help out at the local school or something. Put your engery into something good.

Oh wow! You think so too? Yeah. I liked the 90s way better. Not everyone had a computer and people were able to find other things to do. Respect. That's also why I dislike iPods. There's something called manners and it seems like people are slowly forgetting them. When your cellphone rings, you excuse yourself. When you're with company, or other people, you don't pull out your iPod and start listening. That's just rude. Sex and drugs were always around, but now they just seem even MORE...out there. Remember that movie, Clueless? When Cher tells the new girl that no girl with any class or something would date a loadie? The guys who did drugs? Yeah. I don't know what happened to that. At school, kids actually BRAG about how much they smoked, or how high or stoned they got and it's disgusting. Ugh. It actually makes me really sad and mad that this is what's happening to our world. =(
Okay, well, it was nice sharing my views with you. =) I bet there are more kids out there who think this way. Just maybe not enough. =( Bye. =)

Ya know what? You're a smart girl at 13!! I know exactly what you mean. I'm 30 now and looking back at the way I used to walk to school with out a worry in the world and my parents used to leave their cars unlocked I can't imagine what went wrong.
I too wish we could go back 100 years or at lest 60 years. It's not a pretty world to see kids grow up in.
However, there are some great things about the technology we have now. I love that my cell phone is there if I get stranded on the side of the road and that I can talk to my friends in Japan via email for free and so fast.
My guess is that God is going to get fed up with the way this world has become and take up his people in the rapture.
I know not everyone believes the way I do, but that's what I hold on to.
I live in a small town in Missouri with only 4,000 people in it. I know most people in town, but I still never take my eyes off of my children for a minute while in public.
My advise to you is to always be aware of your surroundings but don't be afraid to live happily. I moved out into the counrty and feel much safer, but I still keep my doors locked.
Good question. I'm glad that you're a thinker. : )

Everyday I wake up with the same frustration... I am 25 & I have a 3 year old son. I worry for his future constantly. (yes I am happily married-what a concept!?)
It is very refreshing to see such a young person with these thoughts & feelings. I have been looking for a way to reach out to youth, and spread these messages.."That they can affect change, but it starts with them." So ask yourself what can you do, even just 1 small thing. Pick up trash at a local park. Talk to girls your age about teen pregnancy & STD's, volunteer at a local shelter, start a food drive (why do people only oncea year -Chritstmas- do food drives aren't the homeless hungry all the time?) lend an ear to a friend or a stranger... help your grandparents or another old person. The list goes on & on...Good job to you, & keep searching for wisdom.

I think many years ago people cared more for each other and now people seem to only care about themselves. When I was little I could walk anywhere and all the neighbors would watch out for each others kids to make sure they were safe, now parents just let there kids run loose and don't seem to care for their welfare, it is sad! Yes it would be nice to go back 30 years ago so I can show my children what a better world it was and to show them that yes some people actually cared.

It's no mystery; the world has gone lazy, and any attempts to free us from the burdens we face are just shot at and scared off. We're not killing humanity, our humanity is killing us. We're human, we make mistakes, but some just don't notice the things they are doing. We're ignorant, we think we know it all, and we hate being wrong. We're to blame for part of it. You, me, Mr. Bush, Europe, Asia, everbody is to blame, we're killing the earth, and our time is short, why waste it worrying anyways?

It all starts on how people discipline there children.
Music, and TV industries...Music and TV can only set bad examples. All these rich movie stars doing why not. That needs to stop.
Public school is a joke!
There is no respect any where. We need tougher laws and prisons. Who wouldn't want to go to prison with cable TV, free education, weight program to get buff, free bed, free food, Internet, recreation sports, fan clubs from desperate women sending provocative pictures. shall I go on.
