Most regions of the U.S. have an accent ... the midwest accent is noticeable only if you are from another region. The west/pacific northwest is known for having the "clearest" accent ... but midwest is not far from it. Try going to the south or new england state and you won't think twice about a midwest accent!! LOL
Various regions of Canada also have different accents ... with the Prairie provinces (just above the american midwest) having a very similar, but more pronounced, accent.

Minnesotans have a reputation for having an accent, but I don't see or hear why. If you listen to national newscasters, they talk just like people in Minnesota do. Stations often recruit people from the upper midwest due to the lack of an accent. People from other parts of the country believe Minnesotans have a Norwegian (Norvegion!) accent, but other than a few older residents who choose to talk that way to keep their heritage, the Minnesota accent is false.

Bit of a canadian in it in the far north areas. It is not as nasally sounding as Wisoconsin or Michigan. My mom has a whole book on how to talk minnesotan. She was born and raised in LA but spent time with family in western part of Minnesota and I can always tell when she has talked to family on the phone.
as somebody else mentioned go rent the movie Fargo. Also worthe the watch is Grumpy Old Men.

Never heard it talk, or any state for that matter.
LOL - Couldn't resist, sorry.
I think the metro areas sound normal. The far out places... the people sound slightly Canadian.
