I had the Mirena coil fitted in November. I had a lot of pain on and after insertion, it has now turned to occasional pain and regular discomfort. After nearly 2 months I've not had a period, only spotting at the beginning. I've tested for pregnancy, i was negative. I saw the doctor for a check up and she couldn't find the threads. That along with the pain as she pressed on my abdomin made her think the coil could have perforated my womb. I'm on antibiotics as a precaution, and i'm now waiting for an emergency scan to check on it's position. What happens to me if it has gone through. Will i have future problems.

The scan will locate the IUD so that the doctor can see exactly where it is. Most of the time, if a perforation has occurred, the IUD will be removed...usually it can be done right in the office. After your next period, the IUD can be reinserted if you so desire. Most of the time, nothing is needed beyond the antibiotic.

While it is always possible to develop further problems...it is highly unlikely.
