I just got my red cross blood donor card today and I want to know what the negative means...

As stated above, it means that you don't have the RH factor. This also means that you are a true universal donor. O blood can be given to all other blood types. RH negative can be given to both pos and neg. So you can give to anyone. Great news for those in need. Bad news for you because you can only receive O neg blood. (O blood types can only receive O and negatives can only receive negatives).

O negative means you are a universal donor, your blood can be given to anybody, the blood clinics love you. The downside is if you get into an accident and need whole blood transfusion only another O- can give you blood, and that is roughly only 6% of the population. You are blessed to have a rare blood type, which can help lots of people so make sure you go and donate.

It lacks the antigen Rh
