I did some speeches on Hurricane Katrina, Autism, the minimum wage, the jail systems... I know other people in my class did topics on MySpace, Netflix, Volunteering, LASIK, google ... It depends on if you need to do an informative speech, motivational, or persuassive.
Heres a web site with a bunch of different topics for different catagories:

The best way to pick a topic is to use something you're interested in. It could be the latest fashion trends, celebrities, or whatever you find yourself looking into the most. Just remember that 3-5 minutes isn't that long. When you figure out what you're going to say, practice your speech while watching yourself in a mirror (this will help make you less nervous about speaking, and it will let you see how your body language is--are you too fidgety, etc). Your speech doesn't have to be huge or mindblowing, it just needs to be interesting, informative, and within the time limit! (Remember, if something is interesting to you, then it is so much easier to make it interesting to a group of people).
I once gave a speech about laundry and how it was good for people and their lives. No one was sleeping during that presentation! Keep it light. keep it fun, and good luck!

What interests YOU? Surely there is something that you can chat about for 3-5 minutes! You do it all the time! What interests or experiences have you had that are unique from others? Do that!

You'd better pick something that interests you, because you don't want to be yawning while you are speaking. What kind of activities are you into? Sports? Cheerleading? Fishing?
