to a persion who cant see the somtime sutle difference between how a indain and a Pakistan looks.
Im Irish and hate being refered to as british but It happens people are always learning and if they cant figure out somthing they take an educated guess and play the odds.
As indain and Pakistan has the highest and longest (except for chinnees) forneres in Ireland (I cant speek for other countries imratration history) you can guess these are going to be there frist guesses. I have family and friends who are indain and Pakisani and am only now able to spot the difference.
there are some truths of why we are "ignorant" as you say
1. its not our culture.(we learn our own frist and try to understand others but you blame people to how we are brought up.
2. We learn our own Geoghphy frist then the most popular outside our area or places we have traveled (would you say you know every country in the world and know how to tell if a persion is from that county. ie polish from estonian.
3. often we have not learn these things in school (its just now been interduced in some cases) so many are self learning so dont blame them if they simplyfie things by generising.
you dont know everthing, dont expet everyone to know the same thing you know, Dont expect to know everything they know.
l leave with this note if i went to a other country would they always know im from ireland and where were it is.
the anwser is no.
i know this because i ive "been told im engish" by a man from turkey. and "ireland was located under france "by a russan
ignorants is everywhere
we are all ignorant
sorry about the spelling

oh.. its not a big mistake.. i mean you really can't expect people to recognize the subtle differences. india is the most populous nation in south asia. however it is kind of annoying when the person isnt even from south asia lol. i'm pakistani and people think i'm indian, it doesn't really bother me except for the fact that i don't want to be mistaken for being hindu. i have alot of indian friends, they're really nice (this may or may not apply to the country). i just don't like the principles of the hindu religion which greatly contradict my own. but im not OFFENDED in any case
:)

Indian isn't even Asian?
The last time I looked at an atlas India was faily in the middle of Asia!
People who assume all asians are Pakistani, or Indian are foolish.
It is the same as saying a Scotsman is the same as a greek becasue they are european.
I think Asian is still an acceptable term though, just sa american or eastern european or british is

Asia is broken up into many regions
India and Pakistan are counted as part of South Asia.
As for why do people assume why people assume someone is Indian. giving that India is the second most populated country I guess they are just playing the odds.

Careless is what they are, generally. And there is a lot of ignorance. You have to remember that a lot of people have no idea where or what India is, even less where Pakistan is. And it's easier to lump people together. That way "them and us" is simpler. Until recently everyone south of the channel was a 'wog'
Hence the joke:-
"Hey garcon, have you got frogs legs?"
"Oui"
"Good, hop off and get me a cheese sandwich, there's a good chap"

No Carla. It is not ignorance. India is a subcontinent of the Asian Continent.
Watch your comments. Shiites are decent people and like us, they deserve respect.
It is not their fault to have some extremists, just like we have them here at home from among our own people. If you get to know Shiites, you will learn a lot, but you will see how embarassed they are of their extremist, and we seem to forget that OURS can be as mean as theirs.
Or, are you forgetting about the Oklahoma Federal Building a few years back? Do you want to blame it on others, when the author was one of our own people?

STOP.
We are all homo-sapiens, human beings, people of this planet earth.
We can all hurt and bleed, laugh and cry. Colour or race names are irrellivant in these advance times of ours. We all need and we all need each other, some much more than others.
Time we all lived together as the same human species in this planet earth of ours.
