I was wondering for those of you that live in that area what exactly it smelled like and if you were affected by it in anyway...just curious!

This is a phenomenon that happens occasionally. NJ is just across the Hudson River from NYC. On the NJ side there is a tremendous amount of manufacturing. There are chemical plants and refineries and other manufacturing. Additionally there is the Meadowlands which is a wetlands. I would call it a swamp but whatever. When the wind is blowing in the right direction a whole host of odors waft across the river and into NYC. The smell smells a little sulfury. Really I'm surprised they do not smell it more often I do.

I am too far south in Jersey (About 60 miles from NYC) to have smelled it but those who I have spoken to who work up there say it smelled like Natural gas. Which is what caused all of the fear.
