Because after we were up to $5 or $6 a gallon of gas, and the companies realized we would pay that much and still continue on with our lives, they don't feel the pressure to bring the prices down. If we all would have watched where we were going or even boycotted a day or two, the gas prices would have dropped dramatically and we wouldn't be in this situation right now....

Oil prices were significantly depressed before Katrina, which gave oil companies an excuse to raise the prices of gasoline. Also what you are looking at is the price of oil for next month. The price per barrel that you see reported on TV is that of an oil future, or what someone is going to pay for oil that he/she can get next month. Gasoline prices will never fall further than $1.50 for regular unleaded unless there is a large deposit that is found in the US and exploited.
P.S. My Econ professor used to say that there are three things that people will continue to buy no matter what: Oil, Tobacco and Liquor. I think that this is very true. Oil companies could charge us about 4-5 times what they are right now and still sale just about as much oil. Americans are very dependent upon personal automobiles for transportation.

I was wondering on this turn of events myself. I think someone up high in the government isn't doing their job. Someone up there is just thinking of profit without considering the consumers at all. Our government now a days are all consumed about money, money and more money. I think they totally forgot that we put them up there to work for our best interest. Their thinking now is they are up there on their gov't. seat to boss us around and bleed us to death.
Don't you think there should be an oil regulating bodies of the gov't. to regulate oil prices so we expect it to go down in the pump when the price per barrel drops? You see when the price a barrel goes up, in the pump, the prices goes up too like lightning. But when the price a barrel goes down to the previous price, price in the pump is trickling down so slow and never goes back to the original price. Isn't that so frustrating?
Life would be a lot easier if only some of our fellow men do the right thing...........not greedy.
