I figured I would ask this because there are people out there that are lonely and may feel left out. What would be the kindest thing you can think of that could really lift up someone's spirits? Even if it's a total stranger you happen to greet on your way to work or school or where ever you may happen to be?

I am looking for an answer that shows an act of kindness towards someone you may know who is single or maybe they may even look a little sad.

After my divorce, I went 10 years without a date while raising my son from 1 alone.

Valentine's Day was very depressing except when my son would bring home his handmade Valentine for me!

I worked at a place where a secret Valentine gave everyone's desk a Hersey's kiss.
That brightened my lonely Valentine's Day.

The whole idea of Valentine's Day is silly, if you ask me. It's a total Hallmark holiday. I don't need a day out of the year to tell my fiance that I love him. I do that 20 times every day!

I think that a lot of people might be offended if you try to make a big deal about their being single on VDay. Some people are like me and don't care about VDay at all. Others care so much that to be outed as "single and depressed" would embarrass them beyond reason. Why is single always grouped with depressed, anyway?

But I digress.

If you are certain that someone would appreciate something on VDay, why don't you pick up a $5.00 bunch of flowers from the grocery store/street vendor? They are usually fresh and pretty, and they don't cost much so nobody will think you are going too far out of your way for them. (They will neither assume you are into them, nor will they assume you pity them.)

Good luck.

When I was single on Valentine's Day, me and my other single girlfriends would go for a girls' night. It's the best way to forget about not having that "one" person in your life. It lifted all of our spirits. Hopefully, it won't be an every-year kind of thing...

If you go through a drive thru, offer to pay the bill of the person behind you on Valentines Day. If a stranger did that for me, it would lift my spirts.

Offer to help an elderly person take their groceries to their car, pay someones bus fare. If it's a person you know, offer to take them to a movie or lunch or just spend some time with them.

Send them a valentine card or maybe deliver them some chocolates or cookies or what about a heart shaped pizza?

Actually you don't really have to do alot , just wish them a happy valentine's day.

I'm single and I don't get unhappy over valentine's anymore, haven't since I was in my 2os. Yes it's for lovers, but then there's all kinds of love isn't there. For your family, for friends, your pet, for your colleagues at work. Just wish everyone a happy Valentine's day and if you want to give them something sweet just do it.

well it is not required to celebrate it. however if you want to get something for someone single do a thinking of you basket: have a nice card saying thinking of you. fill it with things they like, and some candies too if the diet allows it. if you don't want to do that how about just going over and having a chat or a dinner with the single or lonely person.

I can't even count how many Valentines I've spent single. It really is just another day for the single folks and its just 24 hrs...so you don't have to sulk for long. I try to get with my single girlfriends and we always cheer each other up. We say that maybe next year we'll be hooked up...or not...but it happens eventually...so just smile and be happy...love will come your way.

Just give them a little chocolate. I think I will be single on that day, and I don't think of it as miserable. If someone is trying to hard to make me happy that actually might annoy me. But acknowledging that I exist by giving me a little chocolate is nice and sweet.
