semi trucks have different motors for what the truck is designed to do. they typically can have anywhere from 300 all the way up to 600+ and are 99.9% diesels. they come in inline 6's V8's and some 12 cylinder motors. some are turbo charged, twin turbo charged or if its an old detroit it could be a 2 stroke twin turbo supercharged diesel. generally the motors are made from a few big engine companys, CAT, Cummins, and Detroit. These engines are used by truck companies like Peterbilt, Western-star, Kenworth and International.
Some truck companies like MACK make theyre own engines.

The torque output is much more then the hp. one peterbilt semi i worked on had a Cat 425 engine in it. it made 425hp and 1500Ft/LBS or torque!

i know quite a few semis have twin turbo supercharged engines. At least the engine in the semi that delivered to my business had. The driver claimed around 1700lbs of torque, but I don't know for sure.

I remember a steam powered tractor on a farm near my home in the fifties, also steam powered road rollers and asphalt boilers. There are quite a few traction engine rallies at this time of year up and down the country, there are many of these wonderful vehicles on show there !

I think the steam powered tractors were all retired in the 1940s. I have seen a few back then, but they were just on display. Gas tractors came on strong in the 1930s and put the steam guys out of business.
