I collect all vegetable waste and compost it for my gardens. This can also be done with meat waste (but you will attract rodents if you do). Store compost in a heavy plastic container with a lid in an outside location. Make sure you drill/punch holes in it to allow for water to enter, excess water to drain, and for accumulating gases to escape. Add a little fertilizer to act as a catalyst so that it starts to break down. And water occasionally if you don't get any rain.

I put them in the garbage bin, along with the other garbage at my house.

Most often, I use a plastic pail with a plastic liner bag, but I have also been known to use a paper bag.

None of it is hygienic...it's garbage.

disposal or paper bag; it takes along time for plastic to disolve

If you don't have a garbage disposal, put them in your garden, or around bushes, trees, etc.
