Barry Hearn didnt start up the PDC.

It was started by players that wanted more recognition and to take the sport in a new direction in 1992, with oplayers such as Phil Taylor, Dennis Priestley, Rod Harrington joining the established stars in looking to create a new future for darts.

They also wanted more TV money & tournaments and was known as the World Darts Council.

It was formed by Barry Hearn (who was best known for managing snooker stars like Steve Davis) and included most of the top darts players at the time (Eric Bristow, John Lowe, Phil Taylor, etc.).

The main reason was that the players felt that the British Darts Organisation was not exploiting darts to its full potential and they weren't earning as much as they could.

Hearn had good contacts with Sky, who were looking to expand their sports coverage, and so signed a better TV contract than the BDO had with the BBC, and the PDC tournaments pay more prize money.
