this isnt necessarily your favourite band, it has to be the one that has influenced or affected people the most.

The Beatles.

No ifs, and or buts about this one. The Beatles were influenced by a number of different types and styles of music and combined those influences in an entirely new manner, a way that revolutionized (no pun intended, Revolution is the title of one of their songs) the genre of rock music.

They experimented with different types of music and instruments, brought Eastern music to the western world, and forced major changes in the way that music is recorded and mixed in the studio.

You may get some answers that claim it's the Rolling Stones, but The Beatles influenced them as well. In the early years of both groups (although technically, The Beatles began first), Jagger and Richard were looking for a new song. They were pointed to Lennon and McCartney, who accepted the challenge (and the commission) and returned the next day with "I Wanna Be Your Man". Jaggar and Richards were astounded not just be the song itself but by the quick turn around and as a result become determined to write more of their music and to do so much faster than had been the case.

To quote Ed Sullivan "Ladies and gentlemen - THE BEATLES".

Thats a tough one,for my money(excuse the pun)I would have to choose Pink Floyd.I think if you look at the music scene over the last 40 years you will find that you will see Pink Floyd has made a signifigant contribution to many genres of music aside from just psychedelic rock. From their early days(See Emily Play,Piper At the Gates Of Dawn etc.)playing what was essentialty Pop music inflected with psychdelia and blues influences to their later days, playing a brand of rock that well still owing to the bands many blues influences but never afraid to embrace technology;Pink Floyd has been consistently innovative.Given their contribution to rock/pop/blues it is easy to miss another area where they have been influential, namely ambient and techno music, though they are not the originators of these forms of music(see Tangerine Dream,Van der graaf generator)They seem to be the first mainstream band (Beatles?)to experiment heavily in these fields. For an example of this kind of experimentation check out several small species of furry animals in cave and grooving with a pict.I hope this helps you out.

just think how many people have done and redone the Beatles' songs... i mean Michael Jackson BOUGHT the copyright to all the music.
but that's just my opinion.
