Because they need the extra attention. they have to be fed, burped, changed, rocked, and taken care of constantly. Plus, they are so cute when they are tiny! You want to spend every minute with them, because the grow up so fast!

Babies need more care from others. The older kids can do more on their own and for themselves. Babies are helpless. Once the baby is in 3rd grade, it will get just as much attention as this child is getting now.

Because babies require more care. They can't do ANYTHING for themselves... eating, potty, cleaning up, brushing teeth, dressing, etc. That takes a lot of work and extra time. Older children can do these things for themselves so they require less attention (for basic stuff).

I agree with the other 2 people who answered that it is partially because babies require more care.
I also think it is because babies are a novelty. They are babies for such a short time, but you are a "kid" for many years.
