I want to purchase a new PC from Dell as the one I'm using at the moment is rubbish. Dell have an excellent website but I cannot find anywhere on it that tells you how long it takes from placing the order to some bloke at the door getting you to sign for it. Has anybody out there ordered a custom built PC from Dell lately? How long did it take to get to you?

I ordered by phone on Sunday 3rd and they said they'd deliver by Tuesday 12th. It arrived earlier than expected on Thursday 7th. They were very good with their service, just hoping that's always the case. I'm very happy with mine so far but only four months old (the computer not me).
I'm in the UK.

Personally, I wouldn't buy any crap from Dell or any other OEM pc maker. Lets take a quick trip down the OEM computer building process. "X" computer maker says "we need a computer that meets the following specs: XXXX" and they then allow their many parts suppliers to bid on supplying the parts for that particular machine. What this means is you get the absolute CHEAPEST possible combination of parts to get the job done. I don't know if you know anything about how stuff is built, but any time you have the cheapest crap you can stuff in something, it lasts and performs just LIKE you have the cheapest possible crap. Want some REAL advice? Go to newegg.com (or some other online vendor, or even compusa for gods sake), get a case, quality power supply, motherboard, cpu, ram, video card, hard drive, and dvd burner. Pick out a monitor (or a pair, as video cards can run TWO monitors in most instances), a keyboard, mouse, set of speakers, and put it all together. You'll be rewarded with a pc that will run circles around any POS from "Dell" and it'll last 2x as long too.

I got a DELL Laptop last April and it was delivered in about 5 days. I find it super, no complaints. My brother who runs his own IT consultancy company recommends DELL to all his clients worldwide and they have never had complaints. This was in Ireland.

They quote 7-10 working days but both of mine, on separate occasions, came in under five. Don't believe the delivery time agreed for the delivery day though. 08.00-12.00 means more like 13.45.
