Do you think the attack on the Capitol and White House demoralized the American people, or did it spur them to fight even harder? Why?

What really had an effect was the British failure to force their way past Ft. McHenry and into Baltimore's inner harbor during the same campaign (the bombardment of Ft. McHenry is what you sing about in the national anthem "rockets' red glare" etc.). Also the White House did not get that name because it was repainted to cover up burn marks from the War of 1812; that is a widely believed but untrue story. It was already being called that before the British attack.

I think it motivated Americans. Taking a country's capitol does not win over the hearts and minds of it's citizens.

I think your history teacher wanted you to answer that question for youself. Go to a library and do your own research.
