I saw the movie 5 yrs ago and it said it was based on an actcual event....

It was a good movie...but I was told it was the scariest movie ever made....not true...good movie but not the scariest.

From what I saw in a documentary over the best horror movies/shocking scenes of all time, they never mentioned that it had any truth related to the movie. But all horror movies are somewhat inspired by real life massacres or ways to kill each other.

Everything I've read about the movie says no to a true story, and it is being remade for the second time in 2007 (also by Wes Craven) and was inspired by Ingrid Begman's "The Virgin Spring".

I don't sit well with rape scenes or torturous murder, but it is one of the most shocking movies I've ever seen (and won't see again!)

Horror movies always say they are "based on actual events" to freak you out. Rarely are they ever.

Nothing like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre ever happened, it was inspired by Ed Gein though far different.
Odds are Last House on the Left never happened either though fathers have killed men who raped their daughters but that's a pretty broad action.

Not sure, but that movie is definitely rather creepy, Wes Craven getting his start into horror/suspense
