Because they refuse to acknowledge that they have wronged others, even if history has shown this.

The argument, "well my family didn't directly enslave you" is false. As a white person, you still gained the advantages of slave labor even if you didn't directly enslave a black person (i.e. your family was able to gain wealth and pass it on through the generations, while black families weren't able to do this since they were not paid for the work they did) not to mention that the American economy was enriched as a whole by being able to take advantage of unpaid labor...which, of course , all white people benefit from...

And reparations for Native Americans haven't come close to the pain and suffering that they have been subjected to by white Americans.

I think you have a point, the problem is it might be a bit late in the sense that you can target Hiroshima's and the holocaust's survivors and pay them, you can also target a tribe to pay compensation in temrs of spoiled land. But you'd have to pay back all the descendants slaves and that would mean the entire black population of the US. I doubt the government could afford that. Or else by paying compensation by funding a specific project which benefits the entire black community maybe? But we face another problem... not all the white Americans were responsible for slavery and not the government either as the US thought a civil war to fight it (while in the case of the Indians, the Jews or Hiroshima a government could be help responsible). So how are we going to find the slave owners' descendants ? And should they be held responsible for their ancestors' crimes?

Yeah, they should have gotten some kind of reparations. But, at this point, who would it go to. No one who was a slave is alive now. Do I think I should just be handed a lump sum of money just because I'm black? It would be nice... but No.
Personally, I would rather they put that money into the schools in impoverished areas. Maybe start some after school programs.
Drug programs for people. Provide them with places that can help people with resumes and finding jobs. I would much rather see money go towards something like that. At least then you know the money is going to something positive. And not a new car and nice rims.

When you can prove that you were a slave....then you get money.

Why can't people just let the damn past go. One person finds out that they might be able to get money, then everyone is up in arms.....I'm oppressed!!!!

Same reason this country is so damn happy to sue each other. Tell me how a girl buys a soda at a restaurant and ends up dumping it on a guys head and when she goes to walk out she slips on an ice cube. Then she WINS a lawsuit against the restaurant and gets paid?

I digress. I admit slavery happened....it was a horrible thing. While your Grandparents on back would have deserved the reparations...YOU DO NOT. You were never a slave so how can you say it's a debt owed to you?

Anyone can mention it all you want. The problem is if reparations are given to one people group for past insurrections, then there are a whole lot of other people who have had a whole lot more done to them over a much longer time, who are owed as well. Who will pay for them? My ancestors were ravaged by the Huns. Should I ask the Hungarian government to pay me, even though I've never been to the old country?

Why don't I take responsibility for my life and my generation, and change the world, so we don't go back to evil and cruelty. Oh, wait a minute, we still have the muslims. Thankfully, they just kill each other, and treat their women like slaves. They can look to themselves for reparations.

yes, because the American Indians made out sooooo well *sarcasm*

heck, i get mad when people start talking about reparations.

1. its buying into the idea that black issues are the result of slavery (completely ignoring Jim Crow and everything else)

2. not all blacks in this country esp now a days are the descendants of slaves, and how are you going to prove that you were or weren't

3. taking a monetary payout is a real easy solution. racist whites get to wipe their hands clean, and blacks who don't have the benefits of a financial adviser get to spend like crazy, while other blacks would be in the same place financially they would have been in a few years anyway

4. native Americans, Jewish people and the Japanese are not a fair comparison.

I'm going to stop answering these questions.

So why should you get paid for something that did not happen to you? Oh, you are looking for a free handout, that is the answer. Why should we pay for the sins of our great grandfathers? And how far back through history do we go back to give people money for pain and suffering? My relatives suffered throughout history, but I do not stand there expecting someone to give me money. Also, the black people in Africa had a booming slave trade, prior to the white people bringing blacks to American. So, you actually should blame the Africans back there for all the problems that happened. The white man did not invent the trade, hate to say it but it was the black people in Africa doing it to their own race well before hand. Quit looking for the free handout.

ok 1. white people get mad BECAUSE IT IS BLACK PEOPLE asking for recognition for the wrongs that was don to their ancestores, when other race's like the Jews mention the atrocities every one was like oh! yes it was a terrible crime lets show how sorry we are,
All the negative replies comes from racist descendants of THIEF'S, their ancestores STOLE, MURDERED and RAPE in-slave and destroy nations , how the hell can we expect them to have a hart, it's only been 200 years ago since slavery ended, maybe they need another 200 years
It's not about weather you or i was there, you was not in the Jews concentration camp to known right from wrong you don't have to be the rapist to feel sympathy for the child that is raped you just have to have the qualities that gives you the right to be called a human, and judging by a lot of your answers a lot of you failed that test
To the sender of the question your question need to be address to real intelligent HUMANS not racist garbage

peace to you all

Growing up my mom and dad have been racist. It was once continually N this and N that. In prime college my quality buddy was once black. When my dad first met her, he hated her and continually stated that she was once a boy. He continually instructed me that White individuals belong with white and black with black and asian with asian ETC.. Well I have on no account fairly been drawn to white men and my dad continually hated that. I met the affection of my existence who's black and married him. When my dad first met him, he was once in a nursing house. I was once scared that my dad could say some thing that could harm my husband. He did not. I consider he both did not care anymore or did not understand any bigger. My dad grew up in an extra time and I consider that's why he was once so adverse to it. My dad was once born in 1920. He grew up for the period of segregation. Back then, it was once applicable. Ten or fifteen years in the past my dad could have threw a have compatibility and potentially hated me. I bet that he eventually grew up. That or cherished me extra then his prejudice.

I GET MAD!!!! Damn the money, its time to get up and start doing something. IN the Bahamas we were slaves too but DAMN if we are waiting for England to save us. Those who work get ahead, those who don't or who beg or sell drugs get NO WHERE and its the same in the USA.

The USA should have paid by 1900, I'd just be glad if they simply changed the school system in poor areas and give money to education not BOMBS!!!

just because some whites would like to forget and they want you to forget to a debt is a debt and it should be paid not necessary in dollars but through other ways like free college education and health for all slaves and if you can trace your roots backs to slavery since it was soooooooooo long ago according to some whites than it should be some monetary payment for that. it is just my thought. read your answers the majority will say for get it and more on when it is so much more and they can never understand, since they basically know their genealogy and we do not but for those who can read a census from the 1900 in back it Will tell you whether or not you are a product of a rape that took place on somebody plantation.
