but does anyone know of anybody who can co-exist with a house full of animals.or am i going to make a fool of myself in the bargain..i have owned pets all my life ...just not together.

Yes, I have dogs and cats and birds and I have had rodents with them. With care, it can be done.
Dogs and cats get along just fine once they get used to each other. Feed the cats on a table or counter so the dogs don't eat their food.
Dogs will follow your lead for the most part; if you teach them that the rodents and birds are not toys but pets, they will usually be okay with them; it depends somewhat on the breed and the individual dog, but if the pets are in decent cages you shouldn't have much trouble with the dogs.
The problem is with cats and other small animals; especially when they are kittens. They have a very powerful instinct to go after small prey, and are better at jumping and climbing than dogs are. The small pets need to be kept in strong and stable cages. Any kittens I have had could not resist jumping up on the bird cage, but if they can't open it or knock it over, the birds are safe. The cats become more tractable as they become adults.
I have also had wild mice and a wild rat in cages (not together). The glass cage I had them in was pretty good, but my most recent kitten tore a hole in the screen and released the rat. I think he escaped, because I didn't find a dead rat and I doubt that my 2 cats would have eaten a whole adult rat leaving no trace.
The lesson is, make sure your cages are strong enough that the cats can't get at the small pets, or keep them in a closed room when you are not supervising. I've seen one bird breeder who has a cat, and the birds are kept in a separate room.

Woah Nellie! Thats a full house in a second!
Take your time first of all, if your going to be spending that kind of money on breeds, make sure to not bring them home only to stress them all out at once! Take things SLOW, that is the best way for the best success. I have 4 cats, a mouse and Guineas. Hermits as well, but wahoo lol! Ive had my cats for awhile , but we had rodents first (i had a degu at that point but she died at 9 yrs) I think if I were you, I would buy the smaller exotic pets first. This way, when you bring a dog or cat into the home, the "prey" type animal will already have the "run" of the house ( if u know whati mean ) Personally, I would pass on the birds if you want a cat and a dog. Thats just putting stress on to many species if you ask me.
Speaking of Degu;s though, they are WONDERFUL pets. They are smart, social as just one, (i had a single degu live for 9 years and had another that lived 8) They dont smell, and over all are a great pet.
I guess my main message is time. It will all come together Im sure, but keep your patience so that all goes well for everyone, skin and fur.

i have done it.

Mice had their own room. The door was not colsed most of the time. I had them in an aquarium with a secure lid on a steady surface.

The birds spent the time when nobody was home in the room with the mice and a closed door.

The dog and cat pretty much have the run of the house. If they are both young when you get them you will have better chances of them getting along.

If it is an outdoor cat, let your birds out for exersize when the cat is out ( dog too if it is being a hunter) Or put the dog and cat in a seperate room for about an hour.

Some cats and dogs do fine with larger rodents like guinea pigs and rabbits. It just takes time to associate them and you should start out with a dog or cat thaty is already pretty friendly. I be careful leaving the dog with rodents while you are out though.

good luck. your new place sounds like it will be fun

Oh and keep everything clean or your place will stink!

Well i think the only way you can do it is cages for the rodents, rabbits, and birds (which is the normality for these types of animals, I believe).

If you raise both a cat and a dog together usually you can train them to tolerate and even like one another--sometimes it happens without raising them together. But you have a better chance of a companionship if you raise a kitten and a puppy together.

We have a doberman, two poodles, an african grey parrot, and three cats. Everyone gets along perfectly (but maybe i am an exception)

I have a ferret, and an abbyssinian cat, who grew up together. I got them both about 2 months apart. They are pretty much the same age and were young when I got them. Just recently I added a puppy to the mix. Animlas adapt to anything as long as you get them when they'tr young. Age is key. Oh yeah, as for the way things are at my house, well as you can imagine, when they were young I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown because of all the damage they did to MY brand new house, but now all is well, and I'm very happy I have all of them.

I had a dog, cats, and birds all at the same time. My dog died, so now I only have cats & birds. The dog & cats got along fine. The birds I keep in a separate room.
