I'm assuming that this stump is cut close to the ground.....

too big for a mattock or pick axe, so....

Easiest and fastest - Hire someone with a stump grinder.

Slower - check local fire regs first, but based on size, I'd soak this one in kerosene and burn it.

Slowest - drill holes, fill with water and a little fertilizer. Keep covered with mulch. Every now and then repeat this process and the stump will rot at an excellerated pace. Go easy on the fertilizer as all you are trying to do is promote fungus growth.

Call a tree service that has a device called a 'stump-grinder', it shouldn't cost more than $200.

However, this is the politically incorect way to do it: pour gasoline on it and I mean about a gallon, let it soak in good and then light it on fire. Then toast marshmallows......

Trust me on this one, and I like to do everything on my own. But when I had a tree stump removed 2 years ago, I got someone else to do it. On a tree stump that big, they have to grind it down. Look up in your phone book or on http://local.yahoo.com and look up "tree removal". Plan on it being between $100 to $300. And trust me, you'll want them to do it.

Your best bet would be to look in yellow pages and find someone who does stump grinding. They have a machine that will grind the stump level with the ground and grass will grow over.

The best way is to hire an excavator. It might run as much as $500.00 to remove it.Dicking around with a pick-up truck & a chain saw is going to be VERY labor intensive. If your time was only worth $10.00hr. You're going to have more than 50 hours in it (alot more) & the chainsaw. $500.00 is cheap

If your cheap like me, buy a long drill and drill a lot of holes in it then pour stump rot in the holes, all available at hardware store. The stump was gone in one year and I just filled in with dirt as needed.

get a pick-up truck and a heavy duty chain. tie the chain to the stump and attach it to a hitch on the pick-up. Then SLOWLY press the gas to avoid sliding. Watch out for spinning wheels if the grass is wet!
