No. I've been told by a friend who recently visited Ireland that they put us to shame big time! They live hard, laugh hard, cry hard, and party hard! FULL of life! He said there's always a reason to drink, too. LOL

I am not sure to tell you the truth, but some countries aren't as wealthy as the Americans. Some countries suffer do to drought, lack of resoures, and some are always at war. So I personally think the Americans smile and laugh more than some people in the rest of the world.

From my travels I would definitely say YES. But perhaps I was seeing alot of people who were just deep in thought.

Many people in other countries also do not greet each on the street nor hold doors open for others. I guess I was simply raised to smile, be friendly and certainly go out of your way to hold open a door for ANYONE. It may not have to do with being American at all, just upbringing.

: )

Happy Tuesday !!

being european i can tell you from my personal experience that you even might be right, partially. but of course it's about the value in society and its interpretation of others which is connected to this smile. probably it's supposed to mean "i'm happy", "i'm positive" it represents that you're glad with your live and you're open towards other people. in europe this might be considered superficial when you smile the whole time. but i'm against making too big differences between europe and the u.s. because i think after all we're quite the same...
